Troubleshooting:
What do you need to send?

When it's busy and chaotic, it can be difficult to keep track of what to send. We are here to help you out. Below are some scenarios of cases where you might want to look over to make sure you are sending us what we need to complete the restoration.

Standard Prep - Crown & Bridge Cases

For any case with a prepped tooth, please send:

  • an impression or scan capturing the margin without bubbles or drag

  • an opposing impression or scan

  • a bite (blue mousse, hard or soft bite material, wax rim, or triple-tray impression)

  • a detailed prescription and photos

Complicating Factors:

  • If you want us to match what was there before, take an impression or scan before you prep.

  • If the patient is missing a lot of adjacent teeth to the prep, or has little-to-no occlusal stops with the opposing, please send a set of full-arch impressions or scans.

  • If the margin of the prep is very deep or hard to see, please consider sending an impression rather than a scan.

  • If the patient bit on the impression tray itself, or was not in MIP for the triple-tray impression, please include a separate bite.

  • Take note of dark stump shades or esthetic concerns in your prescription that might influence the final shade, and include photos with shade tabs in line with the preps.

Implant Restorations

For all implant cases, we need:

  • An impression with an open tray or closed tray impression coping that seats securely in the impression

  • OR a digital scan with a fully-seated scanbody (scan flag).

  • an opposing impression or scan - quad or full

  • a bite (blue mousse, hard or soft bite material, wax rim, or triple-tray impression)

  • a detailed prescription and photos

Complicating Factors:

  • If the impression material does not completely surround the coping and the coping is loose, please retake the impression.

  • If the scanbody does not belong to the implant platform we are restoring, we need a new scan with a correct scanbody.

  •  A seperate scan of the tissue without the scanbody is helpful, but not necessary to complete the case. If that's all you have, that is ok.

  • We can't always do a screw-retained restoration due to angulation of the implant and limited restorative options.

  • If it is an Encode Healing Abutment from ZimVie, we only need an impression or scan of the healing abutment to determine the implant position.

  • Even if the implant company offers it, we do not recommend zirconia abutments due to experience of breakage, and will not warranty any restoration using a zirconia abutment.

Crowns and Partial Dentures

If the patient has an existing denture and we need to make a crown that fits with the clasp and/or rest seat, you don't have to send the denture to the lab. Follow these steps.

  • Take an impression or scan of the tooth before you prep.  We can align the arches to create a crown that is an exact replica.

  • The next best way is to prep the tooth and take an impression without the partial denture.  Next, cover the prepped tooth with Blue Mousse Bite Material, then place the partial denture in the patient's mouth. Use enough bite material to capture the position of the clasps and rests with the partial denture fully seated.  Send that blue mousse impression of the clasp, the impression of the prep, an opposing and a bite registration for us to complete the case.

Complicating Factors:

  • Confirm you have prepped the tooth giving us enough room to copy the pre-op tooth exactly. If we don't have the space, we might not be able to match the original.
