Switching to a digital intraoral scanner has multiple advantages over traditional impressions. There is no more need to deal with messy impression material. The image is easily preserved on a hard-drive and won’t degrade, warp or tear over time. A re-scan can be done immediately with no waste of materials. But the biggest bonus is the patient will prefer the time saved and the minimal labor required to complete a scan.

We are witnessing the Big Bang of CAD/CAM dentistry. The future of CAD/CAM dentistry is still in its infancy, but we are already seeing the incorporation of CT scans and facial scans to better serve our patients with more comprehensive analyses for improved diagnostic planning.
